The National Information Centre for EarthQuake Engineering
(NICEE) at the Indian Instiutute of Technology, Kanpur has brought
out a Hindi Translation of International Association of EarthQuake
Engineering (IAEE)'s publication 'Guildlines for EarthQuake Resistant
Non-Engineered Construction. The recent EarthQuake have clearly demonstrated
that our built environment is highly vulnarable to Earthquakes. Even
though our country has experienced numerous damaging Earthquake in
the past, it is not adequatly prepared for such an event in terms
of technical manpower, Know how, and earthquake resistant Constructions.
One of the major tasks in our country is to ensure appropriate seismic
provisions in new construction and Seismic retrofiting of the existing
ones. This cannot be achieved just by making the seismic codes mandatory;
the concerned engineers should be trained, and the public at the large
should be sensitized. This publication will help towards achieving
thes goals.
Immediately after the Bhuj Earthquake of 2001 in Gujrat, the NICEE
made the English Version of this Publication available on it's Website
www.nicee.org . Also
the ACC Limited has printed copies for free distribution. Intereted
